We’re a featured artist on ReverbNation! View Comments

ReverbNation.com has made us a featured artist. You can verify this by clicking here, and selecting “Featured Artists.”

ReverbNation really is an incredibly useful site for bands, because we can pretty much manage our entire email list, song list, and show schedule in one place. And we can use those tools on our Myspace page. Plus ReverbNation imports our existing blog, so that visitors to our ReverbNation profile can catch up with us without surfing all about.

For a bigger, more popular band, these features might even prove more useful.

Houston Press Awards Nominations 2007 View Comments

Alright, last year I didn’t really bug anyone about nominating us for the Houston Press Music Awards, and yet somehow we were nominated and invited to play the showcase. This year, I’ve decided to put some effort into our promotion of the event. That’s right, we’re asking you to nominate the Bright Men of Learning for every category you can possibly think of.

I just finished filling out my own ballot, and I have some recommendations for you. Naturally, I voted for us in nearly every category. I also voted for some pals of mine. I did exercise some restraint. For example, I didn’t vote for myself as best male vocalist (and frankly I’m not asking you to either). Also, I had a bit of trouble in the best guitarist portion of the ballot because the Bright Men have two excellent guitarists in Benjamin Davis Murphy and Chris Kahlich. Having near-Solomonic wisdom, I decided to nominate Ben Murphy in the miscellaneous category in honor of his prodigious cowbell talents.

Without further delay, I invite you to submit your own ballot to the Press.

Local blogs give BMOL some love. View Comments

Today, Ryan Clark’s superb Houston music blog, The Skyline Network, featured two stories that spoke kindly of the Bright Men. First, the Bright Men are part of the Feel Good Hits of the Summer Festival, which will take place June 9, 2007 at the Proletariat. Second, the Skyline gushed for several paragraphs about our recent decision to set our Chasmatic recordings free. Last week, our pal David Cobb at Houston Calling also blogged about our free music giveaway and our new record.

We encourage our readers (all 2 of you) to point your feedreaders at the Skyline and Houston Calling if you want to keep up with local music not covered in the Press or the Chronicle.
