Next Weekend: Rockin’ For Rise! View Comments
Next weekend is going to be a pretty big one for the Bright Men. As you may already know, we’re scheduled to play the 3rd Annual Rockin’ For Rise Benefit Concert; a two-day festival benefiting the Rise School of Houston. We’re playing on the second day of the festival, Saturday March 3, from 2 to 2:45 pm at the Last Concert Cafe. The first night of the event is being held at the Hard Rock Cafe downtown. For a full schedule, click here. Tickets are amazingly cheap: $14 for two days, $8 for one day. You can purchase tickets online here.
To promote the show we’ll be visiting Phil and Rhonda on KPFT’s Radioactive Program, Friday March 2, from 2 to 3 pm. There will be a brief interview and we’ll play a couple of songs live in studio.
The Rise School focuses on the needs of toddlers and preschoolers who have developmental disabilities. Their unique approach allows children with Down syndrome and other disabilities to interact with typically developing children, “which has resulted in children’s achievements beyond previous expectations.” We are particularly excited to be a part of this year’s event because our bass player’s young son, Benjamin Elliot Sage, attends the Rise School. Benjamin was born with Down syndrome, and the Rise school has been a vital part of his development into a totally amazing kid.
Speaking of kids, if you have some, you should consider bringing them early on Saturday, because freaking Trout Fishing in America is doing a children’s set from 12-1 on the same outdoor stage where we’ll be playing. You can catch TFIA, and then BMOL will go on after a short break.
We hope to see you there.
